Cultural TriangleLocated in the geographical heart of Sri Lanka, the triangle has as its points three ancient capitals, together spanning 2500 years of history: Kandy in the south, Anuradhapura in the north and Polonnoruwa in the east. Within the triangle are unique cultural marvels such as the 1st Century BC cave temple of Dambulla, the 183 metre-high granite hill fortress of Sigiriya and the vast archaeological site of Polonnoruwa: three wonderful World Heritage Sites. KandyThe last seat of the ancient Sinhalese kings, this attractive city contains the stunning Buddhist Temple of the Tooth Relic, a World Heritage Site near the large scenic lake. After a temple visit, it is well worth strolling through town to catch the relaxed atmosphere. A visit to nearby Udawattakale, the forbidden forest of the ancient Kandyan kings, will reveal quarrelsome troops of dusky toque macaque monkeys. |
