La Digue

One of the world’s most iconic beaches - Anse Source d’Argent with its exquisitely eroded boulders, palm trees and sparkling white sand - can be easily reached on this the fourth largest of the Granitic Group.  Lying half an hour’s ferry ride from Praslin, La Digue is much more relaxed than its two bigger neighbours, boasting rare cave swiftlets and the Veuve Reserve, protecting the endemic black paradise flycatcher. Island exploration is best done by hired bicycle or oxcart. There is safe bathing, good snorkelling offshore, excellent diving and keen walkers can scale the highest point at Nid d’Aigles for fantastic views.

La Digue Island Lodge
Bordering the safe bathing beach of Anse Reunion, the medium-sized hotel has a number of detached chalets set amidst lush tropical gardens, takamaka trees and coconut palms. Guests benefit from a large swimming pool, two restaurants, a dive centre and daily complimentary excursions by boat to neighbouring islands and entrance to the l’Union Estate with its old copra factory. Please note the chalets have an upper level where the children sleep, which is accessed by ladder.

Suited to adventurous families with older children, this programme combines three wonderfully different locations. Lovely Cerf is only a few minutes from the main island, Mahe, yet feels well away from it all while providing very comfortable resort facilities. A private beachfront villa awaits you on Praslin, where you walk in the fabulous palm forests of Vallee de Mai and visit three island wildlife reserves. The coral island of Desroches provides the grand finale, part of a wild Indian Ocean atoll with great snorkelling and diving, offering plenty of scope for exploration and family beachcombing before flying home.
