Nicoya Peninsula

Dry deciduous tropical forest containing many species of birds and mammals is  Nicoya’s main natural habitat, but the chief draw to visitors is its dry climate and miles of attractive Pacific beaches. This is a great area to unwind and relax after a full itinerary in the interior, staying in high quality resorts and hotels and enjoying swimming, riding, surfing, diving or boating.

Tango Mar
Enjoying extensive grounds and a special beachfront location facing the Pacific Ocean, the long-established, owner-run resort has friendly, efficient staff, excellent food and a bar serving delicious cocktails. Swimming is possible in the sea at low tide (entry at high tide can be difficult), and there are three swimming pools from which to choose. There are stables offering enjoyable riding tours, a nine-hole non-professional golf course, a spa treatment centre and easy trails through the dry tropical forest inhabited by howler monkeys. Family accommodation includes spacious two bedroom beachfront cottages.

Punta Islita
Accessible mainly by light aircraft, the main hotel is perched on a hillside with swimming pool, restaurant and wonderful views to the Pacific Ocean. Ten minutes’ walk away is an exclusive guests’ beach club with good restaurant and pool with wet bar where it is tempting to spend time relaxing, swimming or surfing (children’s lessons available). The family villas are tastefully decorated with private plunge pools, and you can choose to ride horses, ride zip-lines, play golf or just relax in your hammocks.

It would be very hard to beat this tour for its wide diversity and exceptional value.  From the wildlife-rich lowland rainforests of the Caribbean coast, ascend to an historical ranch-cum-lodge at 11,000 feet to marvel at a forest-clad, active volcano whose crater can be reached by horse, bike or on foot. Lastly, travel to the dry forest zone of Nicoya and a well-run beach resort with great family villas, excellent food and friendly service. A fine recipe for good memories. Find out more...
