Barrier Reef & Coral Cays Testimonials

Southern Belize

The least visited region, it holds the majority of the Garifuna and Maya populations of Belize, as well many Mayan sites, large tracts of forest, pretty offshore cays, the wildlife-rich Monkey River and the popular seaside peninsula of Placencia.

Dangriga

Dangriga, the largest town in southern Belize, is the centre of the Garifuna culture – people of mixed Carib and African descent. It is ideal as a base for visits to Cockscomb Reserve with its good walking trails, and offshore islands and atolls including South Water Cay, and Lighthouse Reef and Glovers Reef – both offering superb diving.

Placencia

The long, thin peninsula, 40 km south of Dangriga, is Belize’s most popular holiday location after Ambergris Cay, with the best beaches on the mainland. From there it is easy to explore Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary, the Monkey River, inland Maya ruins such as Nimli Punit, and the myriad islands dotting the southern reaches of the Belize barrier reef system, including Laughing Bird Cay.

Turtle Inn
Owned by Francis Ford Coppola, the exclusive beachfront resort is beautifully built and set amongst coconut palms and tropical gardens. Families are accommodated in spacious wooden, Balinese-style, two-bedroom, two-bathroom villas, and there is a full service spa for parental pampering as well as a swimming pool and dive shop. Boat excursions may be booked for snorkelling trips out to the cays, and tours are available to Maya ruins and other inland attractions such as Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary.

A wonderfully relaxing programme suitable for families with younger children who wish to experience the beauty of inland and coastal Belize yet with minimal time spent travelling. After staying in our lovely spa lodge in the Maya Mountains, where you might have ridden bikes and horses and paddled Canadian canoes, spend a full week by the sea for coral reef snorkelling or perhaps diving, and certainly swimming. Wonderful winter sunshine in a friendly Caribbean country – what could be better?  Find out more...
