Belize Barrier Reef & CaysExtending more than 185 miles north to south, the Belize Barrier Reef, a World Heritage Site, is second only to Australia’s in length. The cays (pronounced "keys") are coral islands which stud the entire length of the reef. Three of the five coral atolls in the Caribbean Sea are located off the coast of Belize: Lighthouse Reef, Glovers Reef and Turneffe Islands. Ambergris CayLocated just off the tip of Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula, it is Belize’s largest island at 25 miles long and just over a mile wide. The barrier reef is only a quarter of a mile from the beach, making diving and snorkelling easy and accessible. The only town is San Pedro, home to the majority of the island’s population, as well as bars, restaurants and hotels. Just offshore lie the popular diving/snorkelling sites of Hol Chan and Shark and Ray Alley - over 160 species of fish have been identified in the reserve, along with nearly 40 species of coral. South Water CayApproximately 14 miles east of Placencia and forming part of a marine reserve, the 15-acre island is one of the most beautiful on the reef. One can snorkel right from the beach, visit other cays or fin to the edge of the shelf where the deep ocean begins. There are just three properties on the island (one offering scuba diving), which is very quiet and peaceful – perfect for that Swiss Family Robinson, desert island feel. |

It exceeded our expectations. Belize is stunningly beautiful, the contrast of the cultures and landscapes is fascinating and the people are very friendly. Your company has been very helpful and made us feel at ease the whole time – everything ran smoothly – thank you very much. Miss S M, Hertfordshire. |
